Event Date: Saturday 15th May 2021 | Report by Alastair Conn
Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club (DRSC) held its first Musto Skiff league event on Saturday 15th May. The idea of the league is to get as many of the Derwent Reservoir Musto Skiffs racing as possible, with racing being held once a month.
The first Saturday of racing attracted 17 boats, all from DRSC; could this be the biggest Musto Skiff club racing in the world ever?!
Joe Trotter, currently out through injury, did a great job as race officer for our first event. The plan is to have all of the experienced members of the fleet be race officer for one day of racing. Race officers can elect to give up their sailing for the day and be awarded average points, or choose to be part of the racing themselves with the racing started using a gate start and competitors remembering their own results.
After four races, the leader board is topped by Alastair Conn, although Dan Trotter is only a point behind with a much better discard. With about 25 races left to go in the series, there is plenty of time for things to change before a champion is declared at the end of the season.
Derwent Reservoir has 21 Musto Skiffs, so the series is guaranteed to continue to attract plenty of competitors. If sailors from other clubs would like to join in, then they can pay a small fee on the DRSC website and join the fleet for the league racing on the Saturday and then stay for some more sailing on the Sunday, if they wish.
The remaining dates this year are:
- 12th June
- 10th July
- 28th and 29th August (Scottish and Northern Skiffs Open Meeting)
- 18th September
- 16th October
- 13th November
