Musto Skiff 2021 Worlds Update – May 2021

Event Update: May 14th 2021

An update from the GBR Class Association and Worlds Event Organising Committee on the ACO 11th Musto Skiff World Championships 2021:

Earlier this year, the Musto Skiff Class Association (MSCA) confirmed the postponement of the 2021 Musto Skiff Worlds to late September, due to the on-going COVID-19 situation. Since this announcement, the MSCA has been working closely with the host club, Fraglia Vela Riva (FVR), to plan the event with continued monitoring of the pandemic and the easing of lockdowns.

The MSCA would first like to confirm a change to the planned race schedule. Due to a regatta date clash with the Italian Sailing Federation Olympic Classes at FVR, we have had to modify our race schedule to start on Monday 27th September, with the final race day now on Sunday 3rd October.

The class can still arrive on Saturday 25th September for rigging up, practice sails, and registration, but the Pre-Worlds/Practice Races will be a one day event on Monday 27th September and the Worlds will start the next day on Tuesday 28th September, with one layday scheduled and five days of Championship racing, ending on Sunday 3rd October.

With cautious optimism that the event can go ahead as planned, the MSCA has agreed to set regular review points with FVR to assess the event viability in the months leading up to the event, and we will update the class at each key review point. We have also agreed a fair and transparent cancellation policy, should the event need to be cancelled, with the aim of providing a full refund if possible to do so.

Lake Garda is a fantastic venue, and if it is viable and safe to go ahead, we are really keen to deliver this prestigious regatta for the class. A lot can change in 3 months, and we are hopeful that the situation will improve further and more sailing events will go ahead by late September.

We are now in the final stages of finalising the NoR and we anticipate opening the registration later this month.

Further updates will follow in the coming weeks, but for now, please note that the race schedule will be slightly shorter than planned with registration from Saturday 25th September, and racing from Monday 27th September to Sunday 3rd October 2021 (inclusive).
