GBR Class update by Ben Schooling
With the excellent UK Nationals at Eastbourne now a fading happy memory, you’d be forgiven for thinking that is it for the 2022 season, but how wrong you’d be! There are in fact 2 events remaining on the 2022 calendar:
- 22 – 23rd Oct – Dalgety Bay Sailing Club Scottish Skiffs Championship
- 5th – 6th Nov – Itchenor Sailing Club Firecracker and Musto Skiff Open Meeting
The GBR fleet has enjoyed a busy season with 14 events across the UK this year, 7 in the North, 7 in the South and the UK Nationals. We’ve had an average of 15 boats per event and 80 competitors taking part to date. Qualifying for the series is based on cumulative points for 4 events including the Nationals.
After his superb podium place at the Nationals, Jono Shelley is heading up the points table with Dan Vincent, Jamie Hilton and Euan Hurter all within a shout of the title and the coveted half scale model of the Musto Skiff hull. A special mention should also go to Euan, who despite working in France for most of the year, has made it to 7 of the 11 events.
Once again, a big thanks to the events co-ordinators for tirelessly liaising with clubs to arrange all these open meetings and thanks to all the competitors for supporting the circuit and our local sailing clubs, many of which are run by volunteers.
