Class update by Paul Molesworth
With only a few weeks to go before the start of the ACO 12th Musto Skiff World Championships at Lake Garda, we are excited to announce that we have arranged for live GPS tracking to be in place for the duration of the event.
The addition of ACO sponsored GPS Trackers for our 2023 Worlds means the full MO (Missing Out) experience can be provided for all those people who are sadly unable to attend. SailRacer GPS will be providing a live virtual eye in the sky direct to people’s mobile phone, tablet, and computer devices. By clicking on the link, which will be shared on Musto Skiff’s social media platforms at the start of the event, people can follow the daily racing free of charge, watching every start, tack, gybe, and no doubt, capsize.
Additional information will include a real time leaderboard, which will automatically update to display the latest positions, combined with the SailRacer scoring system that re-scores the overall regatta on a mark-by-mark basis, spreading the excitement of the event across the globe. We expect the armchair experts will have plenty to say about what they would have done!
To enable this tracking, small GPS units will need to be collected and returned daily by each competitor and will need to be fixed to the boat. The sail pocket seems to be an ideal storage location – just don’t forget to tie it on!
For the lucky 50+ sailors who are at the event, we plan to have a screen set up in the sailing club allowing replays, and if time and opportunity allows, we will also try to run a debrief with some of the key sailors who can talk through how the race was won or lost. The event will also be available for you to study in your own time over a beer shoreside, should you wish to do so.
Thanks to our Event Title Sponsor, ACO, whose support of the Musto Skiff 2023 Worlds has enabled us to provide GPS tracking for every single competitor. We are also pleased to be teaming up with SailRacer to make this possible. SailRacer has been at the forefront of GPS tracking for sailing events since 2010, covering several thousand races from club events to major world championships and Olympic classes international regattas.
We look forward to welcoming you all to the ACO 12th Musto Skiff World Championships at Circolo Vela Torbole, which will kick off with a Pre-Worlds on Saturday 15th July, followed by five days of championship racing. The event will conclude on Friday 21st July with a prize giving to announce all the category winners and the 2023 World Champion!
