Here is a Q&A that was completed by EuroCup Champion Roger Oswald
What got you into MUSTO Skiff class?
After many years of sailing in teams I wanted to give it try with one hand sailing. MUSTO Skiff has been fascinating me ever since.
What have you sailed previously?
505, 18ft Skiff, 49er, RS 600
How old, tall and heavy are you?
Born 1961, height 1.85m, weight 80kg
How much training did you do in the MUSTO Skiff in the year prior to the nationals win?
Sailed all regatta weekends and holidays.
Did you do any specific training exercises to improve your boatspeed & handling?
In the few training sessions that I manage I always try to go to the limit, risk quite a lot more than I do during a regatta – capsizing a lot of course – and I do as many manoeuvres as I can.
What were your rig settings (Take, tension (shroud & Lowers) spreaders (length & deflection))?
Take: 7.28m
Shroud: 28
Lowers: 10
What did it feel like to lift the trophy at the prize giving?
Just great! And thankful at the same time; it cannot be taken for granted to be able to compete successfully on this high level at my age. I am happy to be healthy and fit enough to do so.
Do you have any sponsors?
No
What other hobbies do you have?
In winter skiing, snowboard, cross country skating and snowkiting.
In summer on weekends that I do not sail: kite surfing with my kids and hiking with my partner.
Are you married / have any kids?
I live with my partner Marina now.
I was married to the mother of my two wonderful daughters and my wonderful son – born 1990, 1993 and 1998. Marek, my son, is a remarkable talent and doing great in regattas. – It is getting harder and harder to win against him. It makes me happy to see him perform better and better.
What is your favourite band/music?
All sorts – mostly pop and rock
What is your favourite food?
Mediterranean food – spaghetti, pasta, lasagne, tiramisu – you name it – I love it all.
What is your day job?
I have been a self-employed carpenter for the last 23 years. I have my own small company.
