Results: Musto Skiffs at Largs One Design Regatta 2025 – 17/18 May

Event: Largs Chandlers – Harken – One Design Regatta 2025, hosted at Largs Sailing Club over 17 – 18 May 2025
Report by IMSCA

The UK Musto Skiff fleet headed to Largs Sailing Club over the 17/18 May weekend for the annual One Design Regatta 2025, which was kindly sponsored by Largs Chandlers and Harken. Whilst the warm sunshine was most welcome (and reportedly hotter in Scotland than in Spain on Saturday!), the unexpected warm weather for May meant that wind conditions were forecast to be light on both race days.

Despite the forecast, eight Musto Skiff sailors optimistically turned up at Largs to take their chances and rig up for some sailing in the sunshine. After a long wait in the sailing club with multiple bacon roll orders and several shopping trips to the well-stocked Largs Chandlers to kill some time, the Race Officer finally lowered the AP to launch for the first races of the day. However, the light breeze soon tailed off, and the Musto Skiff fleet were unable to complete their planned races. After just one race, the day was canned, and the skiffs limped back to shore.

Not one to let a day of sunshine in Scotland go to waste, local sailor Jono Shelley kept the spirits up in the fleet by offering to take some of the sailors for a boat trip in his large ‘speedboat’. With a few sailors on board, along with wives, girlfriends, a couple of children in life jackets, and a large boxer dog with four excellent sea legs, Jono took the fleet for a short trip across to Bute to enjoy some cold beers on the island. The day ended with a stunning sunset cruise back to Largs for pizza and more beers at Largs Sailing Club.

With similar wind conditions forecast for Sunday, it was inevitable that racing would be called off. However, the fleet once again got rigged up and ready to wait it out on shore. Unfortunately, the wind did not pick up, and the Race Officer cancelled all racing for the day.

With boats packed up and a prize giving ceremony already planned, the sailing club decided to go ahead with awarding the various fleets with prizes and trophies for their overall results.

Unfortunately, the Finns, RS 400s, and Musto Skiffs only achieved one race over the weekend. This meant it was not technically an event, but everyone very much appreciated the club’s decision to be inclusive and acknowledge all results by awarding prizes to the top places in every participating class.

After one day and one race, Euan Hurter crossed the finish line in 1st place, followed by Jamie Hilton in 2nd, and Dan Trotter in 3rd.

Much thanks to Largs Sailing Club and all their amazing volunteers for hosting the event weekend. Thanks also to the event sponsors, Largs Chandlers and Harken. Despite the lack of sailing, everyone made the most of the event weekend, which wasn’t hard given the lovely warm weather and the stunning views around Largs!

See you next year!
