Season opener in the north at Wittensee

Junis (GER 558) reports on his season opener in the far north.

On May 3 and 4, 2025, the Musto Skiff Class Wittensee Fight took place – a regatta with six races that demanded everything from the sailors: from temporary light wind passages to challenging strong wind conditions with 20+ knots. Seven boats, along with 18 505s, competed, providing exciting and varied racing. In addition, 26 29ers and 19 Int-14s sailed around the course – guaranteeing exciting buoy roundings in the large field. A brief tribute to the sailors:

The overall winner was Iver (WSCW), who made an impressive return after a break of several years and demonstrated his experience and class with three race wins. Junis (SCLW) finished a close second with one win and one race in which a tiller broke. Karsten (WSVDK) from the Netherlands completed the podium in third place – sailing consistently fast and tactically cleanly with two first-place finishes. Bo (BSC), also a long-time Musto sailor, consistently put pressure on the leading field and had to cope with a DNS on day 2. Ari (BSV) competed in the Musto Skiff class for the second time at Wittensee, sailing his father’s boat and impressing with his skill and consistency in the various winds. Lisa (WuW), the newcomer to this field, completed a solid regatta in all conditions and demonstrated impressive endurance and willingness to learn since her regatta start in the Musto Skiff at Mövenstein in 2024. Catharina (KYC), also back on the water after a long break, started quickly on day 1 but unfortunately had to interrupt the series due to injury.

The regatta was characterised by sporting fairness, open cooperation between experienced and new sailors, and an all-around successful organisation on Lake Wittensee. Thanks to the WSCW for hosting this exciting season opener!
