ACO MUSTO SKIFF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2026
YACHT CLUB DE CARNAC
6-12 JUNE 2026

DAY 3
10th June 2026

Report by Alexander Greil (SUI 486)

It was a great day for sailing with sunshine and decent wind forecast for the third race day at the ACO Musto Skiff World Championship at Carnac. Today’s racing started two hours earlier with the first warning gun at 11am local time. Here’s the team Swiss account of each of today’s races.

The first race started with 7–10 knots of wind, which was a welcome change after the big breeze we’d had on the first two days! On the first upwind leg there was a wind shift to the left. During the first downwind leg there were some light wind areas, which caused many position changes. The second upwind and downwind legs were similar. Pierre-Yves Pfirter (SUI) finished in 4th place. Alexander Greil (SUI) rounded the first windward mark in 4th place but lost many positions on both downwind legs. The wind was still not very steady in the first race. Marc Faas (SUI) finished 24th.

In the second race, the wind increased to about 10–14 knots. The wind was much more stable. Sailors were able to go upwind on both the right and left sides due to small wind shifts on both sides. At the leeward mark, during the first downwind leg, there was almost a crash between Hendrik Schürkötter (GER), Brennan Robinson (RSA), and the media boat. It ended with two capsizes.

Alexander had sailed a good race and finished 7th in race 2, with Pierre-Yves finishing in 12th, and Marc finishing 28th.

In the third race, the wind became a little stronger – around 14–18 knots. The strategy was similar to the second race, but the waves became much bigger and there were more capsizes. Pierre-Yves made many mistakes in the third race and capsized near the end, but Alexander had another good race and finished 6th. Marc finished 29th.

Today it was very impressive to see how much faster Robert Richardson (GBR) was than the others. He won the races by a big margin, pulling three bullets out of the bag to hold onto his overnight lead. He sails very high upwind and is extremely fast. In second place overall, we had Ben Clegg (GBR), followed by Eddie Bridle (GBR).
