Registration Now Open for ‘Training Camp Dongo’ 2026

Article by Alexander Greil

Training Event: Training Camp Dongo
When: Saturday, 25th April 2026 – Saturday, 2nd May, 2026
Location: Dongo Magic Lake Camping, Lake Como

As we did last year, we would like to sail in Dongo again in the Spring and offer a training week. We want to give all motivated skiff sailors the opportunity to participate easily and conveniently in guided training with a coach, support boat, and regatta buoys.

In spring, thermal winds (Breva) begin in Dervio around 10:00 AM in good weather and then gradually build up. The wind is noticeable in Dongo before 11:00 AM. It usually increases slowly, reaching approximately 12-18 knots by mid-afternoon.

Less experienced sailors can set sail as the Breva begins and return to shore if it becomes too rough. More experienced sailors can start when the Breva is already full.

This year, we would like to sail in two training groups, each with approximately 1.5 hours of training per day.

In the Rookie group, the focus is on manoeuvres and boat handling. The goal of the Rookie group: Every participant can safely launch in 12-15 knots of wind, sail a regatta course, and return home safely. Participants who have no prior sailing experience with the Musto Skiff will find this training ideal.

The Higher and Faster group will focus on regatta sailing. We’ll cover fast manoeuvres, tactical options with skiffs, and more. We’ll set anchored regatta buoys and sail racecourses. Speed comparisons will also be conducted in consistent wind conditions, as upwind speed is crucial at larger events. This group is ideal for anyone looking to further improve their regatta skills. This training will take place directly after the beginner training, so it’s possible to sail in both groups.

This time, Livia Naef will be supporting us as a professional trainer on the water for approximately 4 days. We hope to have this support from Monday or Tuesday to Friday.

Those who simply want to sail/cruise around on the lake on their own, are also welcome to do this.

Sailors traveling with their families and/or those who only want to sail for a few days are also welcome. Likewise, sailors who, in addition to their boat, would like to show us their wing, surfboard, kite, SUP (or whatever other Decathlon sports are available) and demonstrate how wet watersports can be.

Last year we stayed at Magic Lake Campground in our camper or in the rooms. At the campground, we can launch and park our boats right by the water. There are two concrete ramps with a pebble beach in between to allow the boat launching trolleys to park.

In short:

  • Goal: Enjoyment of sailing together, individual, cross-class preparation for the regatta season
  • Participants: Skiff and regatta sailors from Switzerland and surrounding countries
  • Accommodation: Each participant is responsible for their own accommodation. We recommend Camping Magic Lake (which also has rooms for rent).
  • Training: Daily joint regatta training with a coach for approximately 2-3 hours.
  • Meals: Everyone for themselves.
