A statement from your Chairman on the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and the 2020 MUSTO Skiff Class events
My fellow sailors,
Like all of you right now, the international class committee has been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. In the interest of the health and safety of the class and everyone involved in our organised events, we are actively discussing the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our planned events for the MUSTO Skiff class in 2020.
We are fully aware that each country is dealing with Coronavirus (COVID-19) in different ways and experiencing different stages of Coronavirus outbreak. With this in mind, we are now urgently discussing the impact that this could have on the planned World’s event in Germany over 14 – 22 August 2020.
Given the advice of local governments in Germany regarding sporting events, in addition to travel restrictions and social distancing advice in countries across the world, there is potential for postponement or even cancellation.
We are aiming to make a final decision on the status of our World’s event within the next 2 weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to ask all of you to please hold off from making any firm plans to attend the World’s event until we can confirm the situation.
We also know that there has been much discussion within the class about whether local event schedules will still go ahead as planned. As a global class, we urge everyone to observe the advice of their local government regarding sporting events and social gatherings.
As it stands, many of the 2020 events are likely to be cancelled in line with local government advice, but we are also urgently discussing if more formal steps are required to bring more clarity for you all. Being out on the water in your skiff may seem like the safest place to be right now, but the unavoidable social interaction around the sailing is not to be encouraged.
As we navigate our way through these unprecedented times, please bear with us and we will endeavour to confirm our World’s event in the next 2 weeks, as well as provide some clarity on the wider 2020 event calendars.
Until then, we hope you, your family and loved ones stay safe.
Andy Tarboton
International MUSTO Skiff Chairman
