Event: Australian Musto Skiff National Championship 2024, Safety Beach Sailing Club, 4 – 7 January 2024

As part of the ‘Skiff Fest 24’ regatta, this year’s Australian Musto Skiff National Championship was held over 4th to 7th January. The event, which was hosted by Safety Beach Sailing Club, saw 11 Musto Skiffs competing for the 2024 National Champion Title on the beautiful waters of Port Philip Bay.
After 4 days of close racing, Jon Newman won back the National Champion Title from his brother, Paul Newman – who was last year’s winner – whilst fighting off current World Champion, Matthias Houvenagel.
Congratulations to Jon, who is a force to be reckoned with in the Musto Skiff claiming his 5th National Champion Title with this win, alongside his two World Champion Titles from 2018 and 2015!
A special shout out to Thomas Stuchbery, who took on the challenge of learning to sail a Musto Skiff just 4 weeks out from the 2024 Australian Nationals. After charting his progress on YouTube, he nailed it, and made it to his first Musto Skiff Nationals to race with the rest of the fleet!
‘Skiff Fest 24’ was held over the 2nd to 7th January 2024, with the Musto Skiffs, B14s and Javelin class joining the regatta for a fantastic few days of sailing as part of their annual championships.
