Jon Newman Wins 2021 AUS Nationals Title

This week, the Australian Musto Skiff class came together to conclude the overall winner for the 2021 AUS Musto Skiff National Championships Title. The Championships were hosted at McCrae Yacht Club on the Mornington Peninsula, with the class joining the Ronstan Regatta for the Australia Day long weekend over 23 to 26 January.

Whilst 16 Musto Skiffs had initially registered for the regatta, including the defending 2019 Title Champion, Marcus Hamilton, only 8 boats made it to the start line for day one of the regatta.

The sailors competing in this year’s Title Championships included Jon Newman, Paul Newman, Richie Robertson, and Richard Ironmonger representing Blairgowrie YS; Marcus Hamilton, Matthias Houvenagel, and Tim Hill representing Port Melbourne YC; and Robin Dayes representing Sandringham YC.

After 7 races over 3 days, Jon Newman claimed the 2021 Nationals Title, with an impressive overall result including four 1st places. Also on the podium were Matthias Houvenagel in second place, and Richie Robertson who took third place.

Well done to everyone who took part, and congratulations to Jon Newman for his impressive performance to claim the prestigious AUS Musto Skiff National Championships Title for 2021.
