Class Update: Get ready for the 2022 Annual Class Survey

Class update by the International Class Committee

The Musto Skiff 2022 Annual Survey will be coming out later this month. As always, Musto Skiff class members and the wider sailing community are both invited to take part. If you are a class member, and you want to know why the survey is important, please read the following information, which includes an update on the vote for the mainsail design and the latest role opportunities in the international class committee.

Why does the class do a survey?

The Annual Class Surveys are an opportunity for Musto Skiff class members and the wider sailing community to provide feedback and suggestions on class activities. Class members can also participate in an online International AGM via the main survey. This will be our 19th class survey to date.

Will this year's survey include an international class AGM?

As with previous surveys, there will be an online version of the international AGM, enabling all class members to provide feedback and participate in voting on class matters. A link to access the online AGM will be included at the END of the main survey. This section will be for class members only – so make sure your class member fees are up to date.

Will this year's survey include the class vote on the new mainsail?

We can confirm that the class vote on the new mainsail design will now happen in 2023. This means this vote will NOT be included in the 2022 Annual Class Survey, but will instead be an independent vote to allow more time for the class to review available information about the design and to try the demo sails (where available).

During the mainsail’s development phase, experienced sailors in the class took part in several demo sails. This resulted in the final design with three demo sails being produced for the class to trial. To date, the demo mainsail has been trialled in several countries including Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and the UK (both north and south). Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback on this so far.

For an overview of all the information to date relating to the new mainsail design project, please refer to this recent class memo: Class Update: Musto Skiff Mainsail Design Project – Nov 2022

Can the class put forward suggestions for class matters to be voted on in this year's survey?

As it stands, the mainsaill will be voted on separately in 2023 and there are no planned updates to the class rules, so if you want to suggest anything for consideration in the class rules, please email secretaryREMOVE@REMOVEmustoskiff.com by 14th November 2022.

For any other class matters that you want to see included in the survey, please email the committee directly via commsREMOVE@REMOVEmustoskiff.com by 14th November 2022.

Will this year's survey include voting on the International Committee members and Class Representatives?

As always, you will have an opportunity in the AGM part of the survey to vote on those standing for active roles. Ahead of the 2022 Annual Class Survey going live, we will share a list of all the current international committee members, as well as all active class representatives.

It was announced at the 2022 Worlds that there are some vacancies in the International Committee. Can I put myself forward for any roles?

Yes, there are currently some roles to be filled in the international committee – and we encourage class members from any country to get in touch if they are keen to get involved.

Ahead of the 2022 Annual Class Survey going live we will communicate all the current vacancies for the Musto Skiff International Committee on all the usual class channels. For the International Committee, vacancies currently include:

  • Chairman
  • Vice Chairman
  • Class Secretary
  • Youth Representative

We are also creating some new roles to support the growth in the class. This includes:

  • Event Manager – Major Regattas
  • Website & IT Support

More details and role overviews will follow, but if you are keen to step forward for any of these roles right now, get in touch with any member of the international committee team.

How can I take part in the 2022 Annual Class Survey?

The International Committee is currently finalising the survey and gathering any additional suggested content from the class for consideration as part of this year’s survey questions. The committee is aiming to launch the 2022 Annual Class Survey at the end of November 2022.

The survey will, once again, be shared as a link via the class website, key sailing media and class social media channels. You can complete the survey online for free. As always, all survey responses will be strictly confidential. Any data gathered from the survey will be reported only in the aggregate.

We hope you will all take the opportunity to participate in this year’s survey and provide feedback and suggestions that will help us to continue to grow the fleets across the globe and ensure that everyone enjoys being a member of the Musto Skiff class.
