Kieler Woche has for many years been a successful event for the class since 2011 and after skipping 2017 and 2018, the MUSTO Skiffs are back in 2019!
The event is approaching fast and to help your planning our class sponsor ACO has again put together a great accommodation offer.
There is free accommodation available for all sailors on a first come/first serve basis. There is a total of 10 rooms available (some of which are double). Please get in contact with Iver Ahlmann for booking (surfiverREMOVE@REMOVEgmail.com).
This accommodation is part of the ACO campus in Büdelsdorf and is 30miles/35min away from the Kiel harbor. This accommodation is usually used for visitors of the ACO campus. During Kieler Woche there are thousands of sailors in Kiel so local accommodation can be scarce.
In 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 this accommodation was used by up to 25 Skiff sailors and the corresponding event reports and videos can be found below.

Accommodation Details
The accommodation on offer is in the “Direktorenhaus” which can be found here (building nr. 9):

But of course there are plenty of options for accommodation local to Kiel including Hotels, Apartments and camping, some of these can be found in the NOR here:

Of course there are other things to consider regarding Kieler Woche, some of these are detailed below:
Dates
- Starting Saturday the 22nd (13:00hrs) and finishing Tuesday the 25th of June (14:00hrs).
Expected fleet size
- Now already 10 boats from 3 countries (GER/GBR/NOR) have entered. It is the German Open and EuroCup so in excess of 25 boats are expected.
Boat Transport Options
- For those coming from the UK the following is worthy a comparison: Calais-Kiel is 840km, Calais-Carnac is 670km, Carnac-Kiel 1470km
Proximity to Medemlik Worlds
- Medemblik starts 10 days after Kieler Woche finishes, hence this is a great warm up for the worlds!
- To combine the worlds with this event, in the meantime you can either fly home or make an extended holiday. For the week it would be no problem to leave your boat and trailer at the ACO premises in Büdelsdorf, you then fly in and out of Hamburg. Its probably worth sharing travel options with others via the forum or facebook.
Flight Options
- You can of course get someone to take your boat to Kiel and fly over. You would want to fly into Hamburg. This airport is served by standard and low-cost carriers. A suitable easyjet return flight from Luton or Gatwick currently comes in at below 100GBP.
Registration is now open.
- You can secure a 60Euro early bird discount on the entry now and pay when your arrive (just leave out the payment step). Register here
Launching and course area
- The venue is equipment friendly with launching on a wide beach and deep waters in the course area.
- As it stands, we will have a course area only about 5min sail from the beach. In previous years we were lucky to get a chance to sail a day on the TV course which provides Live TV coverage.
Hope to see many of you there.
Regards
Iver
