An update from the MUSTO Skiff International Class Chairman:
“On the sail front, we are aware that there have been some questions regarding the potential for a new mainsail. You will remember that this was considered a couple of years ago and a test sail was made and tried.This sail was not considered to be a sufficient advance to warrant further consideration.
The class voted to ‘pause’ the testing program and it was put on hold. That was to be reviewed in February 2021.
Now that the review point is coming up, we will ask members via the AGM or Annual Survey whether they would like to continue with the development process. We propose to outline 3 options. If the members decide to continue with one of the development options, the process will take some time. Even if a suitable sail is developed, it will then be tested in various countries so that numerous people can see and try it. It will then be put to the class to vote on. Another period of time will be given before the new sail is supplied. This will enable all members to plan their sail purchases, and also minimise disruption of supply chains.
We will release a comprehensive statement soon, but we want to reassure everyone that no matter what happens we are not going to make a sudden sail change. Even if it is decided to make a change, any new sail will only be introduced following a sufficient period of notice.”
