As you are all well aware, the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is having a huge impact across the world right now. We very much hoped that we could continue with our planned events for later in the year, but it is with great sadness that we are announcing that our event host, Sailing Club Eckernförde, has made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 World Championships in Germany.
We know that this is not the news that you all wanted to hear, especially as the event month of August is still months away from now. However, based on the current situation in Germany, we fully appreciate why Sailing Club Eckernförde has arrived at this decision. The safety of the class and all that are involved is the main priority right now and local Government restrictions to manage the pandemic were limiting the options to host our event as planned within 2020.
The International Committee extends our thanks to the German Class Association, ACO, and SCE who have all put a lot of time and effort into organising this event to date. It is hugely disappointing for all, but especially for all of you that were looking forward to this major event in our international sailing calendar.
We will continue to monitor the on-going situation for all of our other class events and work closely with our sailing club hosts to deliver as many of the organised events as we safely can. Until then – stay safe, stay at home, and let’s hope we can all get back to sailing soon!
