The 2019 GBR MUSTO Skiff Series was one of the closest fought in years, finishing as a three-way tie between Stokes Bay sailors, Dan Vincent and Ben Schooling, and Aberdeen and Stonehaven’s, Jamie Hilton. Derwent sailor, Dan Trotter, made a strong surge for the podium after his recent win at the Inlands, but could only make it to 4th place.
For the first time the GBR series combined events with 7 from Scotland and North and 7 from the Midlands and South, making it a 14 race series with 4 events including the Nationals as a requirement to qualify. The 2019 circuit saw 10 newcomers and 88 individual competitors in the fleet including some legends – Peter Greenhaulgh, David Hivey, Sam Pascoe and Fynn Sterritt.
The MUSTO Skiff class continues to show its strength and depth of appeal with an average of 17 boats per event. Special mention goes to Ian Trotter in 5th, Euan Hurter in 16th and Tom Conway in 33rd, who competed in 7 events. To split the tie at the top, a new rule had to be written, but based on the highest cumulative points, it was Jamie Hilton who came out on top.
Many congratulations to Jamie who adds the 2019 GBR series to his National Champion title.
The remaining places on the leader board saw Dan Vincent take 2nd place with Schooling in 3rd. A huge thanks to the circuit sponsors, Harken, who provided stickers for all competitors and prizes for all events and continue to be a valuable partner of the fleet. Here’s looking forward to the 2020 season! See the results here.
