MUSTO Skiff Europeans on Lake Garda 2002
Fraglia Vela Malcesine, Lake Garda
was the venue for the second MUSTO Skiff European Championship
with racing held between 20 - 22 September, with a fleet
of 25 boats including 12 from the UK. The local microclimate
was feeling helpful and gave perfect conditions for
skiff racing allowing good racing breezes and a bit
of something special to finish up.
Gabriel Wicke kept the mast pointing at
the sky taking the title, with Richard Stenhouse and
James MacIntosh the runners up. Prizes were generously
provided by MUSTO. Congratulations must also go to Kit
Stenhouse for retaining the Ladies Title and finishing
12th overall. All agreed that this was a regatta to
remember with no one wanting to leave. The afternoon
was roasting and this called for a final swim in the
lake before returning home.
The skiffs are planning several
European events next year, again at Garda, Switzerland
and Germany. With the competition and sailing in Garda,
the class can only go from strength to strength. With
Luca Devoti's enthuasim for the class and the awesome
sailing in these superb machines, his ambition of 50
boats at next years Europeans and a following Worlds
programme, seems a real reality.
