Jon Newman wins 2020 MUSTO Skiff Australian Championships
Congratulations to Jon Newman (AUS) who has won the 2020 MUSTO Skiff Australian Championships, hosted at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron over 9th – 12th January.
Newman, who already has multiple National and World titles to his name, was pushed to the wire, earning the narrowest of victories with just two points separating first and fifth place. Fellow Aussies James Sly, Richie Robertson, and Paul Newman all tied a single point behind him, with Tim Hill rounding off the top five. It really could not have been closer!
A special mention has to go out to Paul Newman and the Australian Class for managing to rearrange the 2020 Championships within days of the event starting. In response to devastating bush fires threatening the safety of homes and the surrounding natural areas of the event location, the unprecedented decision was made to move the planned Championships from Metung Yacht Club to Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron - the host of Australia’s 2018 MUSTO Skiff Worlds. Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron stepped up to support the Class and fit the Championships into their existing regatta schedule, helping to host a successful event and ensuring that Australia could decide their 2020 Champion.
Great work, and well done, once again, to the 2020 MUSTO Skiff Australian Championships winner - Jon Newman.
