|MUSTO Skiff Liechtenstein EuroCup Walensee SUI (23.-24. Sep 2017)
Walensee in Eastern Switzerland is one of only a few lakes that can enjoy good thermal winds, perfect for Musto Skiffs. Unfortunately, the fleet had no such luck on Saturday as the East-West gradient wind couldn’t get over the high mountains flanking the lake. 13 sailors waited all afternoon for enough breeze to run a race, in the end no luck so time for a barbeque in front of the club hut.
Sunday brought better conditions for the remaining 8 sailors, after an early thunderstorm the weather cleared and enough breeze established at the South end of the lake to run 5 races. Local lad Nic Duchoud read the conditions to take 5 bullets and the clear win, followed with 3 seconds by Pierre-Yves Pfiter flying the flag for Swiss Romande (French-speaking West of the country), the familiar face of Roger Oswald rounded-out the podium. Racing was close, Markus Hofstetter of the SMCGW despite a fall and 2 DNS’s followed-up with 2 seconds placing 6th, then another local Michael Bachmann in 7th. Thanks as always to the volunteers who made the event possible, Walensee is always a very local regatta with a great atmosphere!
