2013 Tiger Trophy
The 20th Rutland Challenge for the John
Merricks Tiger Trophy was run over the weekend of 2nd
– 3rd February at Rutland Water.
This annual early season event always
attracts huge entries and although the forecast was
for cold weather (max. 4 degrees) and a fresh North
wind on top 210 dinghies varying from 18ft skiffs to
Toppers and split into 2 fleets took to the water on
the first day. The Saturday is made up of 4 short races
split into fast and slow handicap and the Sunday is
a 2 hour pursuit race.
For me it’s difficult to believe that
this event is 20 years old, as I can remember John like
it was yesterday, but it is fantastic to see young sailors,
some of whom weren’t even born when we lost John, taking
to this event.
5 Musto Skiffs braved the conditions and
were headed by Ben Schooling in 17th position overall
and 4th skiff class, which is a great result – congratulations
Ben.
Thank you to our classes Andy Rice
for continuing to head the SailJuice series http://events.sailracer.org/eventsites/globalwarmup.asp?eventid=51516
, GJW Insurance for their support and Rutland Sailing
Club members who voluntarily give up their time to sit
out in the cold for a weekend
