Musto Performance
Skiff transport options
By Rich Evans
I was looking into options for getting
my boat the 100 miles to the inlands championships in
a few weeks. My boat is currently at UK
Dinghies having some minor work done by Jon so I
dropped by to see how it was progressing. We jokingly
talked about how similar the Lotus was to the MPS:
- lightweight, aluminium and fiberglass
construction.
- an inspired design that is considered radical.
- quite a handful and very desirable.
We then looked at how I could attach the
boat to the Elise. Unfortunalty it has no chassis making
it impossible to tow anything behind so we agreed it
would have to go on the roof! so thats exactly what
we did!.
My lotus has a hardtop fitted throughout
the winter as the soft top is not 100% waterproof and
it gets quite boring scraping ice of the inside of the
windscreen. The hardtop makes the whole car far stiffer
and snug inside more like a coupe than a convertible.
I was a bit nervous that the 44kg of the Musto may crack
the windscreen but we carefully lifted it into place
and it seemed fine. We only really did it to take the
photo as a bit of a wind up. I think the windage on
the motorway would cause problems and be very dangerous,
plus my suspension if track orientated and the car is
already very low to the ground!.
After we agreed it would be safer and
easier to just take the double stack and tow 2 boats
not 1 behind the UK
Dinghies van.
